- THE ULTIMATE BLENDER HEAD TUTORIAL 3 -

We will now  start with the nose... Hold on the toughest part is nearly over.

First of all one must be aware of the anatomical proportions as well as the position of the nose. The nose should fit in the triangle that we can draw by joining the corners of the mouth and the middle of the bump that extends the eyebrows between these. The 2 sides of the nose and the nostrils must fit in that triangle.

Let's place the top of the nose. We will have to extrude the inside of the eye outline. Select the upper edge (by selecting its vertices) from the inside corner of the eye and extrude twice, placing the vertices as shown on the image and making sure that the vertices on the middle (of the character's face) are on the X axis using N-Key.

Extrude the 2 new faces made this way 4 times, placing them carefully. Extrude them in a side view so theix x coordinate wont be modified and touch them up in a front view after that.

Now select the 4 vertices shown on the image above in green. And in a front view extrude to the right. Repeat the same operation but omitting the upper vertice this time ; this mean using the 3 lowest ones.

Fill them with faces now (F-Key), making 2 quads, 1 tri, 1 quad counting from the upper left face.

Let's go back to the tip of the nose. Go on extruding the two faces forming the ridge of the nose to model the round tip, as shown on the images. Still work in a side view and touch up in a front view, I'll never remind you of that enough : the vertices that make the middle part of the face of our character must lay on the same plane and have an x coordinate of x=0, otherwise the whole model will be compromised when come the time to complete the mesh by copying by symetry the half already modeled and join the two sides. If the middle vertices don't overlap perfectly then its a hard repair job that awaits us.

Now select only the edge on the insede of the nose ridge (the 2 on the left) and extrude them twice ; then fill them with a face (look at which vertices below).

Extrude the 3 lower vertices this time.

Extrude the vertex where the arrow points and then fill with a face.

 Almost the same thing here.

Extrude to the back this new edge and create the 2 faces right over it.

Extrude the 3 vertices from under the nose and link to the top of the mouth.

Extrude the vertice at the lower right and create the 2 faces afterward.

Pay attention here, these steps are quite touchy as where the nose joins the cheek you'll nee to make tris. Extrude the vertice that you see selected in the image below and create some tris from it and also a quad.

Create the faces in red, with 3 quads. We're almost there, the rest is easy ;  with the exception of the ear, the remaining work will go by fast.

Let's finish the nose modeling the nose hole ; select the 2 faces in blue. Extrude toward the inside of the nose and scale them down using S-Key. Extrude ans scale down once more.
